Michael Thomas "Mike" McAllister, '56

obit_michael_mcallister_600x800Michael Thomas "Mike" McAllister, '56, passed away on March 11, 2020 in Tigard, Oregon. 

Mike was born November 19, 1938 in Portland to Clio "Jerry" and Lucille (McGarry) McAllister.
 

Mike attended Boys Town High School in Nebraska and later served on active duty in the Marine Corps for 20 years, with several tours in Vietnam.
 

Mike married Carol Lindey of Portland in 1963. After retiring from the Marine Corps, Mike and Carol returned to Portland with their three young daughters, where Mike graduated from Portland State with a degree in business. Mike worked for the Corps of Engineers in Portland before moving to Japan with his family, working for the Corps of Engineers and then for the Army. After returning to the States, he continued working for the Corps of Engineers and then for the Navy. He finally retired in 1998 and returned with Carol to their home in Portland.
 

Mike enjoyed reading, and had an interest in military history, especially WWII and the Vietnam War. Mike and Carol both loved animals and usually had several dog and cat companions.
 

Mike is survived by his wife, Carol; sister, Joan Lundberg (George) of Bend; daughters, Kim Nadon (Rob) of Brentwood, CA, Mai Ly Rast (Allan) of San Diego, CA and Tawn Ly Parker (John), also of San Diego, CA; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
 

He was preceded in death by his brothers Jim and Bill; sister, Geri Spang and grandson, Austin Lee.
 

Inurnment will be at Willamette National Cemetery along with a memorial service at a later time. Remembrances could be made to the Oregon Humane Society.
