obit_eugene_buettner_600x800Eugene Paul "Pete" Buettner, '55, passed away on May 30, 2019 in Grand Island, Nebraska.  Lifetime Member.

Eugene Paul “Pete” Buettner, 83, of Grand Island passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2019.

Pete was born April 14, 1936 at Albion, NE, the son of John and Florence (Long) Buettner. Pete grew up in Boys Town until the age of 18. On December 15, 1957, he was united in marriage to Ruth Schweitzer at the Abbott Mennonite Church in Abbott, NE. The couple spent the majority of their married life in Grand Island.

Over the years Pete was employed by Ford Garage, Redman Industries, as an insurance salesman for Pioneer and Ozark, and as a contract employee for the USPS. He eventually was the owner and operator of Pete’s Home Improvement.

He was involved with Gideons International and their ministry. He was a member of the Grand Island Mennonite Mission and later Wood River Mennonite Church.
He enjoyed helping and volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. A Jack-of-all-Trades and Master of Some, Pete also enjoyed gardening and playing cards.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Patrick (Anne) Buettner of Grand Island, Thomas (Dianna) Buettner of Fox River, IL, Marcus (Colleen) Buettner of Dannebrog, Sara (Roger) Hornecker of Andover, KS, Michael (Eden) Buettner of Phoenix, AZ, and Teresa (Jerry) Sinner of Grand Island; nineteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Shane Larson of Janesville, WI; sister, Mary Ann Fortier of California; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; daughter, Rita Larson; infant son, James Harold; and three brothers.
