Verlyn Bradley "VD" Davis, 79, passed away peacefully at his home in Keokuk, Wednesday evening, June 19, 2019, surrounded by family and loved ones.

Verlyn was born February 21, 1940, to Edward and Louise Irene Rupp Davis in Shellsburg, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Barbara Duncan on March 31, 1967, in New Orleans, Louisiana. She survives.

Verlyn attended high school through Boys Town in Nebraska until graduation. After graduation, Verlyn entered the military and served with the United States Army for 6 years. Verlyn lived in the Keokuk area for over 42 years and 27 of those years were spent in the production department at Sheller-Globe/Henniges until retirement in 2004. He was a member of the American Legion in Keokuk, a former member of the Eagles Club, a lifetime member of Boys Town Alumni, and USW Local 444. Anyone who knew Verlyn knew that he was a jokester, they also knew that he enjoyed camping with his children when they were younger, loved to play euchre at the Southside Boat Club and casinos and enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren and great grandchildren with his stash of popsicles. Verlyn was a huge Nebraska fan when it came to sports and loved "Big Red".

Verlyn is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, five children: Verlyn B. Davis, Jr of New Orleans, LA, Vickie Sue Brennan of Keokuk, Becky Jo Brennan of Ft. Madison, James (Joann) B. Davis of Hamilton, IL, and Judie Louise (Shane) Hitchcock of Keokuk, one brother; Michael "Mickey" (Sharon) Davis of Moses Lake, Washington, eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and cousins.

Verlyn was preceded in death by his mother, Louise and step-father, Leroy "Doc" Pierce, and his father, Edward and step-mother, Florence Davis, a brother, a sister-in-law, one niece, two nephews, and several aunts and uncles.

Visitation will be Monday, June 24, 2019, 10 am to 12 pm at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Center, 917 Blondeau Street, Keokuk.

A private family inurnment will be at a later time.

Celebration of Verlyn's life will be held at 2 pm on Monday, June 24, 2019 at the Keokuk Labor Temple, 301 Blondeau Street, Keokuk.
