obit_wayne_brannan_600x800Wayne J. "Ozzie" Brannan, '55, passed away on June 13, 2018 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Wayne "Ozzie" J. Brannan 81, Sioux Falls, died Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at the Milbank Health Care and Rehab Center.

Wayne "Ozzie" Joseph Brannan was born November 4, 1936, in Iowa City, Iowa. He was raised by his grandparents and went to live in Boys Town in Omaha, Nebraska. When he graduated high school and left Boys Town, he joined the United States Air Force.

Upon completion of his service, "Ozzie" returned to Sioux Falls where he met and married Julianna Clair West. The couple was married on January 2, 1960. Ozzie worked for John Morrell's for over 32 years as a meat cutter. Upon his retirement, he went to work for the Sioux Falls Catholic Diocese as a maintenance person from 1991 to 2005, when he officially retired. In July of 2007, Julianna passed away.

Ozzie lived in Brandon for a brief time near his son's family. Due to health reasons, Ozzie moved to the Milbank Health Care and Rehab Center in 2018. Ozzie loved to work outside gardening and mowing the lawn. He also loved to watch the birds, the deer, and other wild animals that frequented his backyard feeder. One of his famous collections was Matchbox cars. He also collected hats.

The most important thing to Ozzie was his family. He loved to spend time with his grandkids doing all kinds of activities including hunting and fishing. Ozzie was very involved as a member of St Therese Catholic Church and loved to help out with different things around the church. One of his other favorite pastimes was watching the Minnesota Twins and the Green Bay Packers.

Ozzie will be deeply missed by his son, David (Shari) Brannan, Big Stone City, SD; five grandchildren, Joey, Chelsey, Alesha, Katie, and Kelly; two brothers, Bill and Mike Brannan, Sioux Falls; along with many nieces and nephews. Ozzie was preceded in death by his wife, Julie; one son, Douglas; one grandson, Matthew; and one sister, Roberta.

Mass of Christian Burial was on Monday, June 18, at St. Therese Catholic Church, in Sioux Falls. Burial will followed at St. Michael's Cemetery, Sioux Falls, with Full Military Honors.
