obit_catherine_hughes_600x800Catherine Anne (Rasmussen) Hughes, '93, passed away on March 23, 2018 in Omaha, Nebraska.

Preceded in death by father, Craig A. Rasmussen, grandparents Darwin and Ursula Huey, Ralph Rasmussen. Survived by grandmother Betty Rasmussen, mother Darline and stepfather Jimmy Redd, daughters Ariel Andrews (Todd) and Sky Hughes, brother Patrick Rasmussen, nephew Austin Chase, many family members, and dear friends.

Catherine was a remarkable person. She had an impact on everyone she met. One could not help but love her. She was blessed with two beautiful daughters, Ariel and Sky. They were her world. Nothing came before them. When I started to care for her, she made me promise her one thing. She made me promise to watch over her babies and to never let them forget about her. Everything else was secondary to those girls.

Catherine loved her friends and they loved her. She was there anytime for anyone. All a person had to do was ask and she was there.

Catherine and I (Patrick) were very close growing up. We fought like any other siblings did, but always made up very soon after. We would fight as kids and get sent to our separate rooms. Not 10 minutes later we would be at our doors talking to each other and playing once again. We kept growing closer as we got older. We did a lot together and always looked out for each other. At one point we did not talk for some time. Time we lost and both regret. We worked past our differences and became brother and sister once again. When she found out she had cancer again, I was with her. It was devastating to say the least. I moved in a few months later to help care for her. I was her caregiver for several months and was with her close to 24/7. I was there until the end and I will stay to be there for the girls.

Catherine had a life full of family and friends and she loved each one with all of her heart. She will be missed by everyone she met.

May she find peace in the arms of our Lord and not suffer any longer. She will be missed terribly by everyone she knew. I know there is a hole in my heart that will never be filled.
