WALTERS, William September 27, 1925 - January 21, 2017

A remarkable life came to an end with the passing of William Walters, Santa Rosa, due to cancer.

One of the last survivors of the American Orphan Trains, he endured placement at age four with a dangerous New Mexico couple, jumped freights as a 12-year-old during the Depression, infiltrated Japanese-held islands in Marine special ops during World War II, and after employment as a farm manager, plumber, upholsterer, factory worker, fireman, and shop owner, for 21 years managed the design department at Macy's San Francisco.

He is survived by his three children: William F. Walters, Cloverdale; Dorothea W. Shipp, Santa Rosa; and Gerald Walters, Pascagoula, MS. He also leaves behind five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

William was married to his late wife Lucretia Walters for 65 years.
