Elbert “Al” Edwards, of Omaha, NE died April 3, 2016 at the Veterans’ Administration Medical Center in Grand Island.
According to his wishes cremation has taken place under the direction of Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Burial will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, NE. Memorial are suggested to Boys Town.

Al was born on December 30, 1944 in Kansas City, MO to Garcia Cox Edwards. He grew up in Willow Springs, MO. His teen years were spent at Boys Town, which held a special place for him. He went on to complete 21 credit hours at Southwest Missouri State College.

He entered the United States Air Force on March 5, 1963, serving during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on October 20, 1964. He retired from truck driving at the age of 62. Al enjoyed fishing, hunting, and reading.


Al is survived by a brother: Thomas (Kathy) Edwards; sister: Carolyn (Darryl) Griffith; and special niece: Xonia Stout. He was preceded in death by his mother: Garcia Edwards.
