Louis J. Merhar, 78, passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family and friends. He was born and raised in Hibbings, Minnesota. He was a Chief Gunners-Mate in the United States Navy and retired after 22 years of service. He then went to work at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard until he retired.

Louis is survived by his wife of 59 years, Peggy Merhar; his son, Mikel Merhar; a daughter Gina Capps and her husband Ronald; two granddaughters, Kara Capps and Kristin Pender and husband Tyler; two great granddaughters, Kaylee and Elyse and one great grandson Wesley. Louis loved his Yorkie, Bailey Boy.

A celebration of his life was held at his home located at 2677 Powell Circle, Chesapeake, VA 23323, on Saturday, August 20, 2016.
