Edward Leo Lamerand, '59, passed away on April 4, 2017 in Calumet, Michigan. 

Edward Leo “Yuffo” Lamerand, a resident of Calumet passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 after a courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia.
 

He was born on March 25, 1941 to Edward J. and Mary F. (Pintar) Lamerand in the Keweenaw and grew up in Copper City.
 

He attended the Calumet schools, and graduated from Boys Town High School in Omaha, Nebraska in 1959. Following high school he briefly attended the University of Michigan. He then served a short time in the United States Army before moving to Chicago.
 

On April 19, 1969, he was united in marriage to Sharon Bolf.
 

He worked in Chicago as a steelworker and was a long time employee at Morgan Park Academy. He moved back to the Copper Country in 1999.

Those who knew Leo best could tell he loved his family, and that his grandchildren were his pride, often toting several to his favorite spots around town. He especially loved going to IGA, Louie’s, and Ace Hardware. Leo loved to talk and would often talk to everyone like he knew them, and he will be sadly missed.
 

Leo was preceded in death by his daughter, Christine Marie, and his parents, Edward, and Mary Lamerand.
 

He is survived by:  His wife: Sharon “Bubs” Lamerand; His son: David Lamerand; His daughters: Becky (Al Wakeham) Lamerand; Melissa Lamerand; Laura “SK” (Ted Nakkula) Lamerand; His Grandchildren: Loretta, Emma, Nathan, Craig, Eleanor, Audrie, Roy, and Lydia, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.  His brothers: Pete Pintar; L.A. (Steven) Lamerand; Bob (Robert) Lamerand; His sister: Betty Holiday
 

A memorial service for Leo was held on Friday, April 7, 2017 at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet.

The family of Leo would like to thank the staff at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility for the loving care he received during his time at the facility.
