centennial-coinBoys Town Centennial Coins to Go on Sale

The US Mint will offer the coin sets and individual coins for sale beginning March 9, 2017.

The Boys Town Centennial Commemorative Coin Act (Public Law 114-30) was passed by both the House of Representatives and the Senate of the United States to celebrate and honor Father Flanagan’s Boys’ Home’s 100th Anniversary, which will take place on December 12, 2017. The bill was then presented to President Obama for his signature on June 26, 2015, and signed into law on July 6, 2015.

The law authorized the United States Mint to strike three different 2017 commemorative coins: a $5 gold, a silver dollar and a clad half dollar. These coins will be available with proof and uncirculated finishes.  The first modern commemorative coin program was authorized by Congress in 1982. As of the 2014 fiscal year, only 62 commemorative coin sets have been released.  These coins are unique in that they honor important people, organizations, places or historic events.

The Boys Town Commemorative Coins will be minted and issued by the United States Mint and will be available for purchase beginning March 9, 2017. See the pricing of the coins in the the Coin World Magazine.

Anyone can order these commemorative coins directly from the U.S. Mint beginning on the day of their release at catalog.usmint.gov, while supplies last. Boys Town will not be selling the coin, but the surcharges from sales are authorized to be paid to support Boys Town community-based programs.
