William G. Butler, '71

Corporal William G. Butler, Jr., of Fort Leavenworth, Kansas departed this life on Monday, March 10, 2014, at the home.

William was born September 5, 1953, to William G. Butler, Sr., and Gloria Faye Butler.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a special grandmother, Bessie I. Richmond.

William attended Central High School in the Kansas City, Missouri School District and graduated from Boys Town NE Class of 1971 as an “A” student. He joined and served in the US Army in 1975 and was stationed in Fort Riley, Kansas and then went overseas and served in Panama. He had an honorable discharge in 1983 as a Corporal.

William married Dorethea Neely (Butler) on October 30, 1972 and to this union one child was born, a daughter, Captain Tasha S. Butler (Martinez), US Army, Columbia, South Carolina.

William was a skilled Carpenter and growing up he loved to draw and was a very good artist. He also was a welter weight boxer in the military.

Merced, Jr., Tyauna Christine Martinez, and Akayla Martinez; four brothers: Kevin Butler of Kansas City, Missouri, Elder Dennis Butler of Kansas City, Kansas, Gary Butler of Dallas, Texas, and Minister Troy Butler and (Angie) of Lantana, Texas; eight sisters: Anntronette Dale of Kansas City, Missouri, Loria Butler of Grandview, Missouri, Karen Butler of Lithonia, Georgia, Dorothy Brown of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, CeCelia Davis of Belton, Missouri, Shelia Kimble of Dallas, Texas, Tina Butler of Dallas, Texas, and TerriLyn Dotson (Lloyd) of Atlanta, Georgia; step-mother, Della Butler of Dallas, Texas; one uncle, Elder Buford Butler (Gertrude) of Liberty, Missouri; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
