stan-struble-nowStanley L. Struble, Class of 1968, arrived at Boys Town on February 15, 1967 from Hutchinson, Kansas.  Little did he know at the time that he would eventually have a lifelong affiliation with Boys Town.  From the time he arrived until he graduated in 1968 Struble immersed himself in the academic disciplines available at the Boys Town High School.  He earned a varsity letter in tennis in his senior year.  He participated in Boys Town’s Model United Nations Club and served as the 1st President and Vice-Chairman of that group.

After graduation Struble went to Hutchinson Community Junior College in Hutchinson, Kansas, and after completing his associates degree, he headed to Louisiana to work for a year to earn money to finish his college education.  During this year he worked on oil rigs, both on and offshore, in and around the Gulf of Mexico.  At the end of the year he had saved enough money for school and returned to Kansas State University to pursue a degree in Anthropology which he completed in 1974.  He followed that up by completing his Master’s Degree in Anthropology in 1976 at which time he became an Adjunct Instructor of Anthropology for Kansas State.  Shortly after completing his Master’s Degree Struble took the first of many trips to Mexico to study anthropology and investigate the many old civilization sites that dotted Mexico and Central America.  He lived in Mexico for a year immersing himself in the culture and developed life-long friendships with the people with whom he worked and associated.  These experiences and relationships would eventually lead him to begin to write mystery and adventure novels using ancient civilization mysteries as a backdrop for his stories.  To date, he has published four novels that have been sold and distributed throughout the United States and the world.  His third book has been translated into several different languages.

In the mid-1980s, Struble and his wife Valerie were hired as part of the new program of family-teaching couples at Boys Town.  This began a 28 year career that saw him work in a number of areas to better the lives of Boys Town youth.  After his stint as a family teacher, he branched out and became a Common Sense Parenting Instructor, helping people to better understand their awesome responsibility and teaching them skills to be better parents. He made his mark as an Aftercare Specialist and Counselor, working with Boys Town youth who had either graduated or completed their programs of treatment.  In this position, Struble remained in touch with thousands of Boys Town’s alumni as they moved through their lives.  His counsel, advice and timely support were often the key to helping the youth overcome temporary setbacks and roadblocks.  He became the Alumni Director and was responsible for coordinating with the Boys Town National Alumni Association (BTNAA) and Boys Town.  He provided administrative and professional support to the BTNAA, was responsible for the publication of the BTNAA Quarterly Newsletter and facilitated the work the alumni was doing to begin the journey for canonization of Father Flanagan.  During his tenure, he worked closely with the BTNAA to create a life-size bronze statue of Father Flanagan that was placed at Boys Town and in Father Flanagan’s hometown of Ballymoe, Ireland.  He spent several years as the Village Clerk for the Village of Boys Town.  Struble’s impact in building the relationship between the BTNAA and Boys Town was significant and is still evident to this day.  His recent retirement from Boys Town capped a lifetime of service that began as a youth and continued through his adult life.

Struble remains an Adjunct Professor of Social Sciences at Metropolitan Community College where he has taught for over 10 years.  He continues to write and is preparing to begin work on his fifth novel.  He has been the President of his local MENSA Chapter, President of the Nebraska Writer’s Guild, President of the Omaha Chapter of the BTNAA, a volunteer for Big Brothers and a COPE volunteer teaching Hispanic speaking people English.

Struble and his wife Valerie are the proud parents of three children, Lucas who is nearing completion of his Ph.D., Tim with degrees in physics and electronic engineering and Grace who is presently enrolled in college.   In his spare time he plays racquetball and basketball, walks with his wife, continues his writing and stays generally very busy.  He is a Lifetime Member of the Boys Town National Alumni Association.
