Robert "Bob" Leon Shippen, 79, went to be with the Lord, Friday, the 25th of November 2016 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

He was born January 25, 1937 in Springfield, Illinois to Charles H. and Frances C. (Mayfield) Shippen. He married Roberta "Bobbie" Lee Rath on April 28, 1962 at St. Joseph Catholic Church by Reverend E. Gorman.

Bob graduated from high school at Boys Town, Omaha, NE. He honorably served in the United States Marine Corps. He then worked for City Water Light and Power Company in Springfield for 15 years as Assistant Water Distribution Superintendent, and later as Water Distribution Superintendent. He also worked for the State of Illinois for 20 years as a Stationary Engineer. Bob was a member of Church of the Little Flower. His enjoyments included his friends, traveling, golfing, hunting, and giving a helping hand, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, CPL Charles H. Shippen, U.S. Army, POW MIA in the Korean War, and Dick Shippen; sister, Isabelle (Shippen) Collins; and granddaughter, Amanda Sisler.

He is survived by his loving wife, Bobbie Shippen of Springfield; five daughters, Francine (Paul) Worthington of Kenosha, WI; Karen (Garrett) Sisler of Lima, OH; Charlene (Jerry) Wartenbe of Auburn, IL; Roberta Sisler of St. Louis, MO; and Mary (James) Lewis of Lima, OH; ten grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation and Funeral Mass: Family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 29, at Church of the Little Flower, 800 Stevenson Drive, Springfield; Rev. John Nolan V.F. officiant.

Burial will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery following the ceremonies.
