obit_anthony_mcbride_600x800Anthony Francis McBride, D'36, passed away on September 27, 2016 in Waterloo, Iowa. Lifetime Member.

WATERLOO -- Anthony Francis McBride, 94, of Waterloo, formerly of Elma, died Tuesday, Sept. 27, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo.
 

He was born May 3, 1922, in Crab Orchard, Neb., to Floyd and Blanche Fuller Shields. He was later adopted by James and Agnes McBride after residing at Father Flanagan’s Home for Boys in Omaha. He married Virginia M. Shimek on June 17, 1947, in Lourdes.
 

Anthony was a lifelong farmer, musician, and employed as a bus driver by the Howard-Winneshiek School District for 22 years, until his retirement in 1989.
 

He is survived by his wife Virginia; seven daughters, Mary (Richard) Hicok of Waterloo, Amy (Vern) Lowery of Opelousas, La., Teresa Drtina (Dan Pence) of Shellsburg, Carol (Jim) Borschel of Marion, Julie (Mark) Mlinar of Spring Valley, Minn., Sally (Jeremias) Johnson of Columbia Falls, Mont., and Lucy (John) Ferguson of Presidio, Texas; four sons, James (Ellen) of Glendive, Mont., William (Barbara) of Peachtree City, Ga., Patrick (Jan) McBride of Wanamingo, Minn., and Michael (Lauri) McBride of Independence; 31 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren.
 

He was preceded in death by two sons, Anthony and Daniel;  a great-granddaughter, June Johannsen; a great-grandson, Joseph Mlinar; a brother, Archie Shields; and an infant sister.
 

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Waterloo, with burial in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Elma.
 

Memorials in lieu of flowers may be directed to the family or Cedar Valley Hospice.
