Dale L. Bumgardner, '78
Dale L. Bumgardner, '78, passed away on September 9, 2025, in Elkhorn, Nebraska.
Dale L. Bumgardner was born on November 7, 1959 in Omaha, Nebraska to Burdette and Leona (Little) Bumgardner. He grew up in Omaha, attending both grade school and high school in Boys Town until his graduation in 1978. In his youth, Dale enjoyed playing baseball, football, and basketball, wrestling, and roller skating at Skateland.
On December 1, 2000 Dale and Sandra were married at the One Pacific Place Clubhouse in Omaha. During their time together, they loved to travel and visited many places. Some of the most memorable destinations included Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York City, Ireland, and Italy.
Dale worked for Douglas County Corrections and later for MUD Omaha, from which he retired in late 2021. In his free time, when he wasn’t traveling with his wife or spending time with his fur babies, he enjoyed bodybuilding, powerlifting, remodeling, and gaming. He was a member of the Mustang Club of America and showed his Mustangs in national car shows. Dale also liked to watch football and volleyball and was a big Husker fan, often heard yelling, “Go Big Red!” His favorite TV shows were Yellowstone and Castle, his favorite movie The Matrix, and he always loved 80s music. Dale liked to go to DANTE Restaurant in Omaha and have the authentic Naples Pizza along with an Italian wine.
People will remember Dale’s love for wearing bright clothes and his voice, especially when he would say, “Whaaat?” Dale also had a talent for making people around him laugh. Anyone could count on Dale to provide help when it was needed. He was loyal, protective and giving to all he loved. Throughout his life, Dale made lifelong friends and family wherever he went. He was well loved and loved well.
Dale was preceded in death by his birth parents, Burdette and Leona; parents, Bob Sr. and Angie Hubbard; brothers, Bob Hubbard Jr. and John Hubbard; and fur babies: Tank, Dozer, Trinity, Jr. and Neo.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra; beloved fur babies, Bella and Louie; sister-in-law and niece, Linda & Madelyn Hubbard; brother and sister-in-law & niece and nephew, Steve & Susie and Cassie & Steve Jr. Hubbard; sisters: Lynn Hubbard and Chris Hubbard Millsap, and sister and brother-in-law, LouAnn & Les Peck; nephew and niece, John Jr. Hubbard and Katie (Zach) Olson; father-in-law, Al Lewis; mother-in-law, Carrie Lewis; brother-in-law & sister-in-law and nephew, Doug, Patty and Blake Lewis; sister-in-law and nephews, Debe, Nathan, and Drew Hennings; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Janet and Scott Washa; and a large loving extended family and cherished friends.
A visitation was held from 4:30-6:30 PM on Monday, September 22, 2025 at Reichmuth Funeral Home. A memorial service followed at 6:30 PM on Monday, September 22, 2025.
