Charles Phillip Olivas, D'68, passed away on October 26, 2024, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
We bid farewell to Charles Phillip Olivas (Las Vegas, Nevada), whose journey of life gracefully concluded on October 26, 2024 at the age of 72.
Phil was a wonderful man. He lived a full and adventurous life with many incredible memories with many of the people he loved.
Phillip was born in El Paso, Texas on August 14, 1952. Phillip was the second son of Sabino Olivas, III, of Santa Fe, NM, and Christine Childers Olivas, of Phoenix, Mississippi He was raised in Albuquerque, NM.
He attended Heights Catholic School (Fatima Parish), then graduated from Our Lady of Assumption. He attended the prestigious Phillips Exeter Academy in N.H. and U.N.M.
Phillip was the consummate salesman, having worked in sales in some form or fashion all of his life - and loved doing so. He worked for many years in automobile sales and later became an investment broker and financial planner. Phillip lived and loved sales! He was known for quickly becoming the best at whichever company for which he was employed!! He retired in LV after much time of volunteering for the Salvation Army teaching their residents the life skills they needed in order to succeed after periods of homelessness. Phil then travelled visiting his 'bucket list' locations and began to spend part of each year in Mexico.
Phil was father to Omar and Ebony Olivas, and a grandfather to many and great grandfather to boot. Phillip was second oldest brother in a family with total of ten children. This larger tribe was created by remarriage of his dad 'Olie' Olivas to Clara Arehart Olivas, an incredible mom still with us today at 90!
Phillip was pre-deceased in 2022 by both his older brother Michael Olivas (wife Augustina Reyes) and sister Margaret Anderson. Brother-in-law Carl Anderson passed in 2020. He is survived by his 7 siblings: Richard and wife Marian Olivas, Sean Olivas, Kathleen and husband Greg Bouloy, Rose Hammer, Alex Olivas, Lisa and husband Tim Etherington, and Tim Arehart.
Phillip touched countless lives with warmth and kindness, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever echo in hearts.
One of Phillip's proudest accomplishments was having maintained sobriety since 1990. He attended AA meetings wherever he lived or traveled. He cherished his AA friends and helped them whenever he could. Towards the end, they came to his aid.
Though Phillip may journey beyond the horizon of our sight, his essence remains woven into the very fabric of our being — a beacon of hope in the night.
Memorial Service being held this Saturday, November 2, 2024 at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, 8901 Del Webb Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89134
