obit_richard_kellerhallsl_600x800Richard D. Kellerhals, D'44, passed away on May 5, 2025 in Bloomington, Illinois.

BLOOMINGTON - Richard Kellerhals, 96, passed on May 5.

Visitation is at Beck Memorial Home, 209 East Grove Street, Bloomington, IL 61701, 4 to 6 p.m. on May 13, 2025, followed by a short service; interment at Park Hill Cemetery, 1105 S. Morris Ave., Bloomington, IL 61701, at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2025.

Richard was born January 5, 1929, in Weldon, to Nolen and Esther Kellerhals. He is survived by his son, Paul (Katerina Venetis) and his daughter, Martha Kirk. He was preceded by his wife, Doris; parents: Nolen and Esther; and brothers: Wayne, Louis, Ivan and John.

Richard requested no flowers, but donations be sent in his name to Boys Town in Omaha, Neb. He attended Boys Town as a youth.

He was the Local 362's first retiree council president and faithfully attended the union meetings. He was a steadfast volunteer, assisting in Local 362's multiple community donated labor efforts, including the Compassion Center, World War II Monument, Boys and Girls Club, Children's Christmas Party and many others. He was the 2000 WJBC "Laborer of the Year" and in 2004 the Illinois AFL-CIO "Robert Gibson Community Service Award" recipient. He was always the first to volunteer and was happiest when surrounded by his fellow workers, retirees and family, plus his Apollo Acres neighbors who cared for him.

Richard lived his life with good humor and deep caring for all. His admonishment to all was "Keep smiling and save your money."  Article about Richard Kellerhals - Pantagraph
