Outstanding Young Alumnus Award - July 2022

sommer-lemley-2Sommer Snakenberg Lemley, '12

Sommer Snakenberg Lemley, arrived at Boys Town at the age of 14 in June of 2008. At the time she had no idea that her life’s journey would bring her full circle back to Boys Town and to the mission of helping young boys and girls heal. She was nervous and excited, and her parents were eager to get her on the right path. Sommer was placed in the home of Kyle and Jodi Skartvedt and quickly began learning the Boys Town model. She moved through levels of the program and participated in many activities as a youth, including serving as a Boys Town Ambassador, JROTC Cadet Corps Commander, and Vice-Mayor of the Village.

After graduating from Boys Town in 2012, Sommer attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology. She used this degree and personal life experience as a caseworker for the state of Nebraska for three years, before returning to Boys Town as an employee in 2018. Sommer worked in the Admissions Department for three years as a National Admissions Coordinator, helping to facilitate the admissions of new youth, and foster relationships with organizations and government agencies around the country. Today, Sommer and her husband John serve as Family Teachers at Boys Town’s home campus in Nebraska. They care for four teenage boys, as well as their two dogs. Sommer is currently working towards a master’s degree in Organizational Leadership and hopes to stay with Boys Town for the foreseeable future.

Sommer is passionate about the Boys Town mission and is proud of her time as both a youth and an employee. Of working as a Family Teacher, Sommer says “the best part is seeing the change in the kids, especially when they don’t think they are capable of change. Helping them discover who and what they can be is extremely rewarding”.

The BTNAA is proud to recognize Sommer with the Outstanding Young Alumnus Award for her commitment to give back to Boys Town and to help our future alumni brothers and sisters to have a better life.
