obit_john_mayfield_600x800John Lee Mayfield, '64, passed away on May 23, 1996 in Iowa City, Iowa.

Johnny L. Mayfield, 50, of 911 Roosevelt St., died suddenly Thursday, May 23, 1996 in University Hospitals of a heart attack.  Memorial services: 1 p.m., Wednesday, Grace Fellowship Church, located just south of Regency Trailer Court on old Highway 218.  Burial will be private.  There will be not visitation.  His body has been cremated.

He was born March 6, 1946, in Anamosa, the son of Robert W. "Bud" and Dorothy P. Larkey Mayfield.  Johnny attended Iowa City schools and graduated from Boys Town in 1964.  Johnny was an over-the-road truck driver for Vander Linden Trucking in Keystone.  He married Kay Wildman on June 25, 1993 in Iowa City.  He enjoyed bowling, golfing and fishing and was a member of the Iowa City Bowling Association.  Johnny proudly served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his wife, Kay; a son, Troy Mayfield of Riverside; three stepdaughters, Jessica, Katie and Courtney Heacock, all at home; his mother, Dorothy Larkey of Ames; his father, Robert "Bud" Mayfield of Oxford Junction; a sister, Shirley Stutzman of North Liberty; a brother, Jimmy Mayfield of Oxford Junction; three half sisters, Rita Thornberg of Dallas, Virginia Meachem of Ames and Judy (Mr. Joe) Hansen of Tipton; his wife's parents, Earl "Jay" and Doris Wildman of Iowa City; and several nieces and nephews.
