Guy Rodger Harrison, '64, passed away on May 12, 2007 in Milton, Florida.
Guy R. Harrison, age 60, passed away on May 12, 2007 in Milton, FL, He was born in Waterloo, Iowa, lived there until he went to Boys Town in Nebraska in 1959 and finished out his childhood years there. In Boys Town, he had many accomplishments. He was the mayor, a member of the swim team, a drum major, and councilman, commissioner, lettered in wrestling, football, basketball, baseball, concert choir, choir, band, string groups, B Club and Knights of Altar. He graduated in 1964.
He enlisted in the Air Force in Oct 1965 and went to San Antonio, Texas for basic training and then to Dyess AFB, Texas. From there he volunteered and went off to Vietnam for his tours of duty. When he returned to the states he was stationed at Castle AFB in California where he met the love of his life and they traveled all over the globe; from California to Florida to Japan to Colorado to Alaska to Reno and finally Milton Florida.
After retiring from the military as a Senior Master Sgt in Alaska in 1985, he became a police officer in Palmer, Alaska until he retired as a Sgt. in 1998. He was a well decorated police officer in both the military police and Palmer police. Military honors which include the following medals: meritorious service, AF commendation, AF outstanding unit award, AF good conduct, National Defense Service, Vietnam service, AF longevity service, small arms expert marksmanship. He was a presidential security guard support for President Nixon. He was a world wide master marksman champion three years in a row, a black belt in karate, a proud member of the VFW, NRA, Elks and Moose Lodge, a member of Crime Stoppers and Boy Scouts and a world wide traveler. He was very respected and loved by all his peers and he led a very full and amazing life and his biggest and proudest achievements were the love of his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta Harrison of Milton, Florida; his four children, Tracy McGregor and family from Waterford, CA., Guy A. Harrison and family from Milton, FL, Rachel Harrison and family from Reno, NV, and Michelle Cooney and family also from Reno, NV; his ten beautiful grandchildren, Guy- Alexander, Hunter and Gage Harrison, Connor and Ella McGregor, Courtney Harrison and Corinne and Hope Bordelon and Kayla and Taylor Cooney; two sisters Glenna Wallace and family of Reno, NV, Dixie Harrison of Union city, Iowa; two brothers Ben Harrison and family of North Pole, Alaska and Al Harrison and family from Little Rock. Arkansas.
A memorial service for Mr. Harrison was held at 10:00AM, Wednesday, May 23, 200, at Hurlburt Field Base Chapel, in Ft. Walton, FL., with Chaplain Fadallan officiating. Mr. Harrison will have full military honors.
