Sebastian “Sam” Dattolico, 83 of Sioux City passed away Saturday, July 1, 2023. A visitation will be Friday, July 7, 2023 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. with a vigil service at 7:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. A private graveside service will be held at Calvary Cemetery.

Sam was born the son of Frank and Biagia (Bugliarello) Dattolico on December 20, 1939 in Sioux City, Iowa. He was part of the Heelan High School Class of 1959. Sam met the love and light of his life, Marjean Honkomp in 1968 in Sioux City, but his work on the railroad took him to Chicago, Illinois where Marjean followed. They were married on December 30,1972 in Chicago. They later returned to Sioux City where they made a life and raised their family. He worked as a locomotive engineer for Chicago Northwestern Railroad and retired from Union Pacific Railroad in 2003. He and Marjean recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary.

More than anything, Sam was proud of his family name and Italian heritage. Whether he was researching his family history, spending time with his children and grandchildren, or connecting with close and distant relatives alike on social media, it was always at the center of his life. He was always eager to share the accomplishments of his family with friends online. His charming personality shined with or without the screen though, and he could make anyone smile with his quick wit. He will always be remembered for his smile, wink, laughter, and the kind words he offered to all he encountered.

Sam honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and in the Air National Guard.
