Gilbert R. Lucas, age 76 of Brookfield, died Sunday, January 17, 2021 at Pioneer Skilled Nursing Center, Marceline. Gilbert was born in Bevier, Missouri on May 29, 1944 to Wayne Franklin and Verna Lee (Powell) Lucas. He married Brunhilde “Bonnie” (Eberhardt) Scates on May 21, 1971 and she preceded him in death in 2000.
 

Gilbert was a Veteran of the United States Army. He had worked at Pepsi, Brown Shoe, Cabrook and Dura, all in Brookfield and most recently at Apex Plastic in Brookfield. He mowed yards and shoveled snow all over Brookfield for the elderly and at Park Baptist Church.
 

He is survived by four sons, Thurman Scates Jr. and Sally of Orrick, MO; Mickel Ray Scates of Brookfield, Randy Wayne Lucas and Julie of Marceline, and Matthew Lee Lucas of Brookfield, three daughters, Patrizia Schreckhise and Dale of Brookfield, Tina Brenda Kary of Overland Park, KS; and Melinda Sue Mosley and Evert of Rosendale, MO; sister Nayna Fox of Keytesville, brother Wayne Lee Lucas of Moberly, thirteen grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren. Also surviving are nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three sisters, two brothers, daughter-in-law Michelle Scates and his chocolate lab Taz.
 

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Delaney Funeral Home in Marceline with visitation starting at 9 AM. Burial with Military Honors will be in Rosehill Cemetery, Brookfield. Memorials may be made to Linn County Senate Bill 40 and mailed to 1720 N. Missouri Ave., Marceline, MO 64658.
