Bill was born on May 1, 1952, in Grinnell, Iowa to Bernard and Caroline Lidtka Hotchkin. He was raised on the family farm and attended rural school and schools in Newburg and Grinnell. He later received his high school diploma from Boys Town in Nebraska. Following his education he lived in California and returned to Grinnell and assisted with the family farm operation.

He was married to Betty Risch on May 16, 1999 in Grinnell. The couple lived in Grinnell and he assisted his twin brother with construction and installation of folding doors throughout the Midwest.

Bill was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grinnell and he enjoyed woodworking and attending garage sales. He also enjoyed volunteering in group therapy meetings at the local Alcoholic Anonymous organization.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Hotchkin of Grinnell; his parents, Bernard and Caroline Hotchkin of Grinnell; his twin brother, three sisters and several nieces and nephews.
