Mel Hamilton was the Grand Marshall for the 2022 MLK Day parade in Wilmington, North Carolina..  Hamilton, himself a civil rights leader, is the recipient of the 2019 Father Flanagan Distinguished Alumnus Award.

Mel Hamilton, '65, returned to his original hometown of Wilmington, NC to be the Grand Marshall for the 2022 Martin Luther King Day parade.  The City of Wilmington earlier declared March 7th as Melvin Hamilton Day.  He lives in South Carolina and enjoys his grandchildren and stays active with his family.  You can read more about Mel and his life in the Father Flanagan Distinguished Alumnus Award biography at the following link:  Mel Hamilton.  Previously, Mel has spoken to the Boys Town student body convocation on Martin Luther King Day, delivering his inspirational message to new generations of future Boys Town alumni.
