Sharon was born on April 10, 1948, to Ken and Marie Johnston of Dubuque, Iowa. She graduated from Wahlert High School in 1966 and married her husband, Jim "Burr Head" Jones, on July 16, 1966, at Saint Mary's Church. She worked at the County Extension Office for a few years and later retired from Babka Publishing after over 25 years of service.

Shortly after retiring, Sharon developed lung cancer but made a miraculous recovery and was cancer-free for fourteen years. She spent many years working with the Pink Ribbon Association raising money for various charitable events. There, she made dear friends who were an integral part of her support system, especially when cancer set in again in 2015.

In her free time, Sharon enjoyed camping in the tri-state area with her family and life-long friends. After retiring, vacationing and spending time with her family and friends were her main forms of enjoyment. She loved to vacation in Myrtle Beach, and for the last 14 years, she and her husband, Jim, spent the winters in Casa Grande, Arizona. Her most cherished pastime, however, was spending time with her only grandchild, Chloe.

She is survived by her husband, Jim; her daughter, Julie (Jad) Fry, of Janesville, Wisconsin; Chloe, her grandchild; one sister, Sheila Urban; and two brothers: Ronald (Linda) Johnston; and Richard (Sharon) Johnston; three sisters-in-law, Barb Weber, Beth Hoffman, and Helene Bennett; and three brothers-In-law, Ronald Hoffman, Jack Bennett, and Gerald Bennett.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers-in-law, Gary Urban and Al “Scooter" Weber; her brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Francis Leppert; and her in-laws, Cecil and Angeline Jones.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque in her name.
