Lawrence Leroy "Larry" Mayer, second of the six children of Bill and Lena (Wutsch) Mayer, was born July 18, 1944 in Sioux Falls, SD. He graduated from Boys Town in 1962 and attended National College of Business.
Larry entered the U.S. Army in May of 1966. He served in Viet Nam in 1967-68. He was honorably discharged in May of 1968.
Larry was united in marriage with Bert Spawn on August 26, 1966 in Sioux Falls. Larry worked the past 23 years for Myrl & Roys Paving and the 14 years prior to that with Dakota Contracting. Poor health forced his retirement in the spring of 2009.
Larry was an avid fisherman, hunter and outdoorsman. He was known as a man to get things done and get things done right.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Bert; two children, Paige Mayer, Sioux Falls, SD, Lance Mayer and his wife, Jenny, Sioux Falls, SD; six grandchildren, Josh, Jacob, Garrett, Abigail, Charles and Harold; four siblings, Mary Cornelius and her husband, Louie, Greendale, WI, Judy Baker and Ron Plucker, Sioux Falls, SD, Kathy Erickson and her husband, Dave, Sioux Falls, SD, Dan Mayer, Sioux Falls, SD; a sister-in-law, Linda Mayer, Chester, SD; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dave Mayer.
