Arnie Rodio, Former Mayor of Lancaster, passed away July 5, 2013. Arnie was born on September 14, 1928, to Italian parents Vito Rodio and Julia Caccia in Helper, Utah.

 

As a young boy he attended Father Flanagans Boys Town in Nebraska. Father Flanagan, someone who Arnie loved and respected, later signed for him to go into the U.S. Navy at the end of World War II. He served in Kwajalein, Guam and participated in the Bikini bomb tests.

 

On October 3, 1953, Arnie married his sweetheart, Mary Helen West, who supported and worked beside him throughout his plumbing career and political involvement. Together they raised four children, Arnold, Tony, Candy, and Freddy, and influenced the lives of all their family members and friends. Arnie shares his fathers passion for politics and successful business mind. Tony, who passed away in 1996, reflected Arnie's loyal heart and adventurous nature. Candy, Arnie's only daughter, shares her daddys love and zest for life and gregarious spirit. Freddy shares his father's love for family and compassion for others. Arnie was also supported by eight loving grandchildren, Jessica, Tyler, Jared, Haley, Katie, Sky, Jordan, and Reana and three great-grandchildren, along with many beloved sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, and friends.

 

Arnie was known by many for his sense of humor and helpful drive. He was actively involved in his community as a devoted Democrat and he served for many years on the City Council. Arnie was a hard-worker and could often be found helping someone in need throughout the day. As a plumber, he opened a plumbing supply store that serviced the needs of those in Lancaster. He worked well with his hands and enjoyed working in his craft up until the last couple years of his life.

 

Arnie was passionate about making a positive difference in his country and in the lives of those around him. He knew what it took to be successful and he encouraged this success in the personal endeavors of his family and friends.

 

Arnie was a joyful man who will be remembered by all for the twinkle in his eye and contagious smile and laugh. Anyone who was around him felt loved, supported, and understood. He was always the life of the party and the man who could brighten even a strangers day.

 

Arnie was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. On May 9, 2013, he was sealed for time and eternity to his family in the Los Angeles Temple. Arnie shared his beliefs and love for God in the way that he served his fellow men.
