McGill, Jr., D'98, passed away on August 23, 2020 in Omaha, Nebraska.

Michael “Mike” Kevin McGill, Jr. left us unexpectedly on August 23, 2020 in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 38.

Mike was preceded in death by father, Michael K. McGill and survived by his children, Sam and Abby; mother and stepfather, Cindy and Scot Shales; siblings: Mandy and Adrian Lahs, Matt and Megan, Jeff and Katie, Ryan and Marissa, and Kearstin and Chris Julich; and grandparents, Jerry and Bob Thurber.  He was also blessed to have been surrounded by generous and kind uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mike was born on June 24, 1982 in Omaha, Nebraska to Mike and Cindy McGill.  He was a hard worker and avid learner, spending many years working for the McGill’s family-owned businesses.  His entrepreneurial spirit led him to start his own company, McGill Masonry.

Alongside his professional achievements, Mike built a beautiful family.  In fact, he would agree that welcoming into the world and caring for his two children, Sam and Abby, were his greatest accomplishments and first priority.

Those who know him know he was creative.  It took him nearly no time to rewrite the lyrics of a song to something that had those within earshot – often his brothers – laughing.  His creativity and ingenuity found its way into pranks that might have had questionable results but made for incredible stories.  His family and friends will always remember the laughter that followed Mike and appreciate that it was his habit to create it.
