obit_rebecca_mercado_600x800Rebecca Meeves Mercado, '98, passed away on June 12, 2020 in Amarillo, Texas.

Rebecca was diagnosed with diabetes years ago and soon after found out she had kidney and liver damage. As time went on her condition worsened causing her to having to quit working as a nurse. Her husband who was a chef eventually stayed home to help with Rebecca’s care. Eventually Rebecca was placed on Dialysis for kidney failure and then went into liver failure....she was placed on dialysis .... and disability living a very modest life...as time went on she was placed on the double transplant list....soon after she was diagnosed with lupus which knocked her off the transplant list.

The entire time she was cared for by her husband and Son Isaiah. She STILL remained positive and encouraging to others never loosing her faith in God...Rebecca lost her fight last night after many years of incredible strength...faith and courage...Rebecca lived with the Acevedos at Father Flanagan’s Boys Town in Nebraska where she flourished while attending High school . She was deeply loved by her B.T. Family and all that knew her. She was involved in ROTC as well as track, running cross country. She chose to follow Jesus getting baptized and committing her life to God....she was a beautiful light that at 41 was taken much too soon.
