Robert Daniel Mowrey, D'47

obit_robert_mowery_600x800Robert Daniel Mowrey, D'47, passed away on August 20, 2017 in Arcadia, California.  Lifetime Member.

Robert Daniel Mowrey was born on October 12, 1929 in Lincoln, IL. He was the second child of Byron and Mary Mowrey.
 
When he turned 18, he enlisted in the United States Army and spent 20 years serving his country in the Army and the United States Air Force, including a tour of duty in Korea during the Korean Conflict. While stationed in Germany he met Alex Kiotas and they became, and remained, close friends. When visiting Alex during a deployment in Athens, he met Kleanthi Manousakis. With the help of his future brother-in-law, he learned to speak, read and write Greek. They were married on December 26, 1962, and spent 31 years together until her death in 1993.
 
Robert was a dedicated member of the Saint Anthony Greek Orthodox Church community in Pasadena, California from its inception, serving on the parish council, and tirelessly volunteering at the Greek Festivals for many years. He was also a long-standing member of the Order of AHEPA. An avid outdoorsman, he loved to hike, fish and hunt, and volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America and AYSO soccer.
 
He is preceded in death by his brother Byron J. "Bill" Mowrey and his wife, Kleanthi Mowrey (Manousakis). He is survived by his son, Anthony and his wife, Tina, his grandchildren Caleb, Kleanthi, and Elias, and his nieces and nephews, Julie, Cleo, Mary, Chris, and Sundee.
